By April 16, 2025News

Catholic Charities of Buffalo announced that it has been designated an Accredited Charity with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The agency has been successfully accredited with the BBB since 2017.

To be named a BBB Accredited Charity, an organization must meet 20 Standards of Charity Accountability, which are broken down into the following categories: Governance, Measuring Effectiveness, Finances, and Fundraising & Info. The categories cover metrics such as: program expenses, fundraising expenses, accurate expense reporting, donor privacy, board size and oversight, and audit reports.

“We’re grateful and proud to once again be named an Accredited Charity through the Better Business Bureau. This is a distinction that we hold in very high regard. We want our stakeholders, our staff, and those who have entrusted us with resources to help those in need to know how invested we are in being a trusted charity and an excellent steward,” said Deacon Steve Schumer, president & CEO of Catholic Charities. “This accreditation speaks to the caliber and integrity of the organization, from our staff to our board of trustees. Their commitment is what keeps Catholic Charities of Buffalo a trusted service provider in Western New York.”

Catholic Charities of Buffalo was also a past recipient of the Torch Award for Philanthropic Excellence from the Better Business Bureau Foundation of Upstate New York. The award recognized nonprofits that generate a high level of trust among their employees, donors, and community.
