Catholic Charities of Buffalo President and Chief Executive Officer Deacon Steve Schumer issued the following statement denouncing the killing of George Floyd and the pattern of violence and injustice that precedes this murder:
“We detest the senseless, tragic and unmerciful death of a Black man, George Floyd.
“We stand with our Black/African American brothers and sisters across Western New York, and with all members in our communities of color, in calling for definitive change: for a stop to oppression, hatred and racism and the resulting unjust treatment by law enforcement and by any other members of society.
“We pray for our black and brown sisters and brothers. We pray for our country – for peace and for justice to prevail, and for a renewed determination to act out of kindness, compassion and love to which as Christians we are called, and to work for true, sustained change.
