Catholic Charities of Buffalo will open its ninth food pantry and outreach site Monday, Sept. 9, 9:30 a.m., at Catholic Charities’ 3370 Delaware Ave., Kenmore site.

The new pantry will be open Mondays and Thursdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and will serve eligible residents of the 14217 ZIP Code.

The location was selected based on the number of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible families which reside in the ZIP code and the lack of an accessible food pantry for the immediate area.

“Catholic Charities is pleased to be able to expand our efforts to help reduce hunger in our community, while utilizing one of our existing service sites,” said Dennis C. Walczyk, Catholic Charities president and chief executive officer. “We are again collaborating with the Food Bank of WNY, a program under Feed More. They have walked side-by-side with us for our eight pantries and now for the opening of this Kenmore site, and we are grateful for their ongoing support. Our staff and volunteers are eager to be there for those with additional food needs.”

As with all Catholic Charities’ food pantry and outreach sites, the Kenmore Food Pantry will have emergency food services and offer information about and referrals for other Catholic Charities’ services. Trained volunteers also staff each location and minister to those in need.

In order to determine eligibility and receive food from the Kenmore location, residents must bring the following to their first visit: picture identification (driver’s license, non-driver’s license), proof of number of people in the household, proof of residency (utility bill, landlord statement, lease), proof of income (DSS client ID cards, paycheck stub, Medicaid/SNAP paperwork, WIC cards, Social Security/SSD/SSI benefit letter) and Social Security cards.

The Kenmore site is Catholic Charities’ seventh location in Erie County. The agency also operates food pantry and outreach centers on Tifft, Fulton, North Ogden and Genesee streets in Buffalo, North Forest Road in Getzville, Caldwell Place in Lackawanna, and in Wellsville in Allegany County and Franklinville in Cattaraugus County.

According to Eileen Nowak, Catholic Charities director of parish outreach and advocacy, the Kenmore site will be offering paper products, cleaning supplies and toiletries and will also accept donations of those items in addition to new, unopened, non-perishable and unexpired food items, as do all Catholic Charities food pantries and outreach centers.
