Event to be held May 2-3 in Orchard Park
BUFFALO, N.Y., April 15, 2016 – The National Training Institute on the New York Model for Batterer Programs will host “Domestic Violence Offender Accountability ~ What, Why and How to Get it Done” May 2 and 5 at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 South Buffalo St., Orchard Park, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Presented by Catholic Charities of Buffalo Domestic Violence Program for Men and VCS, Inc. Domestic Violence Program for Men of New City, the two-day training will discuss essential elements and requirements needed to achieve offender accountability, as well as how and why New York Model programs support the work of local, state and national battered women’s advocates. Social workers, advocate representatives, batterer program staff, and judiciary and domestic violence court personnel are urged to attend. This is the sixth New York Model conference held in Orchard Park.
“This is the opportunity to learn the very latest state-of-the-art information on domestic violence and offender accountability programming,” said Gregory R. White, director of Catholic Charities Domestic Violence Program for Men. “It is our goal to hold offenders accountable in conjunction with the criminal and civil justice system.”
The New York Model works in conjunction with the criminal and civil justice system to create an offender accountability environment designed to hold men accountable who come before the court for acts of domestic violence against an intimate female partner.
The training will be led by White and Phyllis B. Frank, director of the VCS, Inc. Domestic Violence Program for Men, who are co-directors of the National Training Institute. Other presenters will include Colleen Gibbons, resource coordinator for the Erie County Integrated Domestic Violence Court, and Vanessa Green, supervisor at VCS Domestic Violence Program for Men in New City, NY.
