Our Housing Assistance team is available to help individuals obtain a permanent living situation. Each program has varying eligibilities for homelessness and geographic qualifications (Buffalo, Erie County and Niagara Falls). We also work with landlords and property managers who can offer safe, affordable housing options.

Programs

Rapid Rehousing

The Rapid Re-Housing Program aims to help individuals and families currently living on the streets or in local shelters to achieve long-term housing stability.

The three main goals for the program are:

  • Housing Search and Placement
  • Rental Assistance
  • Case Management Services

How We Can Help

Ther Rapid Re-Housing Program provides clients with a number of resources, including:

  • Financial Assistance for security deposit and rent to help client secure and maintain apartment paid directly to the landlord
  • Case Management
  • Financial Counseling/ Budgeting
  • Landlord /Tenant Mediation
  • Client contact and home visits 1x per month
  • Educating clients on lease terms and responsibilities
  • Referrals to community services and supports

City of Buffalo residents who would like to be connected with the Rapid Re-Housing Program can be screened in a local shelter, at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library (1 Lafayette Square, Buffalo), or by calling (716) 367-8188 and speaking to an Outreach Worker.

Eligibility

To qualify for this program, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Be without a physical home, fleeing domestic violence or living in a shelter
  • A resident in the City of Buffalo
  • Meet income guidelines

Prevention Program

Our Prevention Program works to keep individuals and families in their homes and out of shelters by providing resources and relocations services to those facing the risk of homelessness.

Those who qualify for this program must be:

  • At risk of Homelessness
  • A Resident in the City of Buffalo
  • Meet Income Guidelines

How We Can Help

For those who qualify for this program, our staff members can help with the following services:

  • Short Term Rental Assistance (First Month Rent and Security Deposit)
  • Rental Arrears (One Time payment for up to 6 months of rent in arrears)
  • Case Management
  • Financial Counseling/ Budgeting
  • Landlord /Tenant Mediation
  • Client contact and home visits 1x per month
  • Educating clients on lease terms and responsibilities
  • Referrals to community services and supports

If you are a resident of the City of Buffalo and are in immediate risk of losing your home due to poor housing conditions, unpaid rental arrears, or another catastrophic event, our Prevention Program may be able to help you come up with a plan to keep you housed by providing financial assistance and case management services.

Landlord Outreach

We are currently seeking landlords and property managers who have safe and affordable housing options to work with our program.

By working with Catholic Charities, landlords can receive financial assistance on the behalf of the tenants. Our staff will provide tenants with the necessary support and resources needed to maintain their housing situation as clients work toward long-term housing stability and independence.
