The communitywide Catholic Charities Day of Giving being held today throughout the eight counties of Western New York to raise funds for the 2018 Appeal continues to gather incredible momentum. As of noon, more than $88,956 has been raised, already surpassing the original goal of $50,000 in matching funds. The total so far today, when doubled, is now at $177,912.

In addition, a second anonymous donor has stepped forward to pledge an additional $50,000 in matching funds through the end of the day.

Sister Mary McCarrick, OSF, diocesan director of Catholic Charities, said she is overwhelmed by the results thus far.

“Our many generous donors at all levels help us to serve our neighbors in need, and with this year’s Appeal in serious trouble, it is incredible and reassuring to see the entire community rallying not only on our behalf, but more importantly for all those who rely on Catholic Charities for support,” Sister Mary said.

Corporate volunteers involved in a phonathon at Catholic Charities this morning have already brought in $38,000 as part of today’s Day of Giving total, bringing the Corporate division total to $1,215,976 – exceeding its $1.2 million goal for the 2018 Appeal.

The 94th annual Appeal has now raised $10,167,453 or nearly 93 percent of this year’s goal since it began in January.

The theme of this year’s Appeal is ‘Love your Neighbor’ and the patron saint is Saint Clare of Assisi.
